When you are looking to purchase a firearm, there are several things that you might include on your must-have list and factors that are important to you. This might consist of the price range, the firearm’s material, caliber, color, or manufacturer. When considering a manufacturer, it is essential to consider their reputation within the gun community to ensure the product you are purchasing is worth the money.

For most gun buyers in America, it is also vital to acquire a firearm that is designed and manufactured within the United States. This article will explore some of the best gun manufacturers in the United States so that when you go to buy your next firearm, you know which brand to look for.

Remington

Remington is America’s oldest gun manufacturer, so it is only right the list starts with them. They were founded in 1816 by Eliphalet Remington with his dream of building a better product than what was being used then. The first product was a flintlock rifle, and his company was an instant success. Today, Remington manufactures almost every gun-related product, but they are best known and respected for their rifles and shotguns. The Remington 870 and the 700 are hunters’ ideal go-to rifles. They recently reorganized their corporate structure and admitted some financial issues, but shortly after, they released a new line of firearms. Proving they are still a resilient American company.

Smith and Wesson

When we think about handguns, we immediately think Smith & Wesson. The company has a long history that started in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1856 with Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson. Interestingly enough, this wasn’t their first firearm company; they are also the founders of Winchester Repeating Arms, which they sold before they created Smith & Wesson. Their Model 27 revolver is prevalent in law enforcement and the general public. Their M&P line of semi-automatic handguns is trusted by thousands of concealed carriers as this handgun is affordable and reliable. Five years ago, the company officially changed its name to American Outdoor Brands Corporation, but thankfully they kept the Smith & Wesson name on all firearms.

Winchester

As mentioned in the Smith & Wesson section, the Winchester Repeating Arms Company was founded by Horace Smith and Daniel Wesson. Oliver Winchester was a clothing manufacturer until he and other shareholders bought the company in 1855. Some of the Winchester rifles were used during the Civil War, but the company’s popularity began after that. The Model 1866 and the Model 1894 became two of the most iconic rifles of the American west. Winchester also developed the M1 carbine and produced the M1 Garands, which was heavily used during the World Wars. Still today, they are known for their lever-action rifles and hunting shotguns.

Colt

The 167-year-old company was founded by Samuel Colt and is responsible for some of the most iconic weapons in United States Military history. The M16 and the M4 rifle were produced by Colt and used by the US military until they lost the government contract, and then in 2015, Colt filed for bankruptcy. The company has been struggling since then to regain its footing in the industry, but their legendary M4 and AR-15 rifles are still popular sporting rifles for those looking for a great rifle to customize.

Sturm, Ruger & Co.

Sturm, Ruger & Co. was founded in 1949 in Connecticut by William Ruger and Alexander Sturm. Today their company is better known just as ‘Ruger’. The Ruger 10/22 is one of the most popular rimfire guns on the market and their series of .22 pistols. Ruger is known for producing incredible firearms with quality results and technology. Their bolt-action hunting rifles are becoming increasingly popular, and their line of revolvers for concealed carriers. It is one of America’s most respected manufacturers.

Henry Repeating Arms

Henry Repeating Arms was started by Louis Imperato and his son Anthony Imperato in Brooklyn, New York, in 1996. The first model produced was the Henry H001 Lever Action .22, and the first shipments were made in March 1997. The original corporate motto was “Made in America and Priced Right.” They are still considered one of the top 5 best rifle manufacturers in the United States.
